How Races Were Run in 2006

Each driver Qualifies by going out on the track for 2 laps, the best of which is their qualifying time.

Depending on the race track's schedule for the event, there may be 1 or 2 heat races.  And, depending on car count each heat race may be split into multiple groups.  Drivers are lined up in order of qualifying times (fastest to slowest), but split into alternating groups.  Legends divisions (Pro, Semi-Pro, Masters) are not considered in setting the line-ups.

The starting grid for Heat 1 is partially inverted (50% if 1 heat race, 70% if 2 heat races).  Heat 2 starting order has no inversion.  Heat races are usually 15-20 laps each.

Qualifying and heat race results are used to determine the starting order for the main event(s) -  there are no points for the drivers.

If there are too many cars for a single main event, those with the worst performance in qualifying and heat race(s) participate in a B-Main.  The top 3 finishers of the B-Main advance to the tail of the A-Main starting grid.

The A-Main starting grid is set based on the performance of each driver across qualifying and heat race(s).  Then the top 4, 5, or 6 positions are inverted based on a random draw.  Main events are usually 40-50 laps.

Points are only awarded for main events.  Each Legends division (Pro, Semi-Pro, Masters) is awarded points as if they were the only cars on the track.  Example: 1st Semi-Pro gets 100 points even if he was 5th place overall.
