Because of time constraints caused by late afternoon rain, qualifying was not done.  Qualifying order was determined based on points standings.  :-)

Start position - 10th.  The #3 PEPSI/Mac's racecar started the heat race in last position, on the outside of row 5. On the first lap we stuck well in the outside groove, and gained 4 positions to take 6th. In the next couple of laps we crept past #67 Tim Johnson on the inside to get 5th. Then, while battling on the outside with #12 Rick Blanchette, #9 Adrian Ward got by on the inside and was followed by #22 Rick Walls, putting us back to 7th. We moved back to 6th by following #12 past #00 Jarrod Schaufert on the inside, then continued our battle with #12. On the last lap we stuck really well on the outside through corners 1-2, passing #12 to finish in 5th.

Also because of the rain, there was only time for 1 heat race.

Start position - 5th.  We started inside on row 3. On the first lap the outside groove moved ahead and we fell back to 6th, but we managed to get past #22 Rick Walls on the next lap to move up to 5th again. See the video of the first 2 laps - 1.8 MB. A few laps later, #27 Jamie Beatson twitched in corners 1-2, and both #12 Rick Blanchette and the #3 PEPSI/Mac's racecar were able to get past him on the back straight - so now we're in 4th (see the video of passing #27 - 640 KB). Someone spun to cause a caution on lap 6. After the restart we fell back a bit, but still in 4th position. It took 5 or 6 laps to catch up to #12 again. Then in the next 5-6 laps we tried to get around him, mostly on the outside. In corners 1-2 we tried the inside and #12 pushed up a bit, so we were able to take 3rd on the back straight (see the video of passing #12 - 1.6 MB). The lead 2 cars were quite a ways ahead now, and we were in lap traffic. #27 Jamie Beatson had an engine problem that oiled part of the track, so the rest of the race was very slick. We hung on to finish 3rd.
