This PEPSI /
Mac's Motorsports racecar is fast out of the box this year! Could it
be that Universal Cycle powerplant?

Start position -
10th.
The starting
order is the inverse of qualifying position, so we started dead last.
There was a lot of commotion in the pack ahead of us the first few laps,
we had nowhere to go. In lap 5 we passed #67 Tim Johnson in corners
1-2 for 9th place. A couple of laps later we got by #4 Larry
Carlson for 8th. But that's where the progress ended.
We made numerous attempts, but a very wide #22 Rick Walls held us off till
the end of the race, never making any mistakes that we could capitalize
on. We finished in 8th. :-(

Start position -
1st.
This time the
starting order was as per qualifying, so we started on pole! We
managed to pull away a bit over the first few laps while #54 Craig Ball
and #9 Adrian Ward battled behind us. But after #9 won 2nd position,
he stayed quite close to us the whole race, making a few attempts to get
by. We finished 1st! Flag-to-flag!

Start position -
3rd
We started on
the inside of row 2. #12 Rick Blanchette managed to fight off an
attack in the second groove by #54 Craig Ball. As Rick surged ahead,
we stuck on his bumper to move up to 2nd. On lap 3, the #27
of Jamie Beatson hit the wall on the front straight after breaking a
suspension part, bringing out the yellow flag. After the restart, we
tried #12 on the outside, couldn't do it, and ended up in a multi-lap
battle with #54 Craig Ball for our position. Craig nosed ahead of us
at the start/finish line, but we managed to pull ahead of him again to
move fully into 2nd place. For a few more laps we unsuccessfully
tried challenging #12, then just tucked in tight on his back bumper and
tried to be patient. It paid off on lap 23. Brent went wide in
corner 1 and was able to get around #12 for 1st when Rick got
caught in the commotion of some lap traffic. #54 followed tight on
our bumper, and continued to chase us for the rest of the race.
There was another caution at lap 35. On the restart we had a pack of
hungry racers attacking from behind, but managed to hold off them off to
finish 1st !!! :-)
What a great start to the season! Many thanks to the
crew for preparing the PEPSI / Mac's Motorsports #3 racecar
- especially the efforts of Chris Huntley and Blaine Thurlow.
