We started in 5th
position, on the inside of row 3. In the first corner of the race, the
Mac's / PEPSI #3 racecar got squeezed down into the dirt while trying
to follow #34 Dave Kindopp as he was passing #12 Rick Blanchette. #12 cut in
right behind #34, forcing Brent to take the dirt or get hit. Numerous cars
got by. Early into lap 2 we were still behind #12 and had fallen back to
9th. We gained a couple of positions to 7th in the next lap or
two. The car was really loose, and quite a handful as the back end tried to
step out in nearly every corner. #9 Adrian Ward got by us and we spent the
rest of the race in 8th, on the tail of #9, fighting our
poor-handling racecar. We tried some feeble attempts to pass on the last few
laps. A disappointing race! :-(

We started way back in 8th
place, on the outside of row 4. There were 31 Legends cars in total in
the combined PRO + Semi-Pro + Masters main event. We spent the entire
race behind #27 Jamie Beatson, who was in front of us in the starting grid.
Brent and Chris had adjusted the #3 Mac's / PEPSI #3 racecar since
the heat race, but it was still too loose. So, the strategy became:
try to stay close to #27 and wait for opportunities. It was a race of
yellow flags. By lap 2 we already had our first yellow when #77 Bob
Lailey spun in corner 4. After numerous laps under caution, we raced
again but #77 spun again on approx. lap 13, bringing out another caution.
Then one lap after the next restart #42 Hugh Williamson, in 3rd at the time,
spun in corner 2. We braked hard, but then #55 Gary Lister hit him,
straightening him out, and he kept going - just in front of us.
Narrowly missed him, but did get some racecar debris thrown at us. #42
kept going just barely in front of us, but coming out of corner 4 he broke
and veered to the wall, skidding along the will all the way down the front
straight, bringing out another caution at lap 17 (and moving us up to 7th).
There was yet another caution at lap 26. Around laps 35-40 we made a
few attempts to pass #27, but didn't get very far up beside him. On
lap 43 the 2 leaders tangled in corner 3, causing braking, spinning,
avoidance, and a bit of contact amongst the top cars. Being further
back, we were able to get around without slowing much, and jumped to 4th
position by corner 4. The yellow flag was thrown AFTER the leader
crossed the start/finish line, so THAT was the lap used to determine restart
order, allowing us to stay in 4th, rather than going back to our position
from the previous lap. A bit of good luck, but we'll take it after our
bad luck 2 weeks ago! We finished the remainder of the race in 4th.
A decent finish for a mediocre day.
